Creating a Profile

Summary

The Profile content type is used to highlight information about and the accomplishments of a person, usually one who works for Middlebury or attends its programs.

Body

The Profile content type allows you to display information about a person who either works for or is associated with Middlebury.

You need to first create the Profile content in the system before you can add it to the Profile component on your page. Note that profiles do not cross populate between School and Office sites. As an example, if you have a faculty member in the College (school site) that you want to include in a Center (office site), you will need to create a profile in each system.

To create a Profile, you'll follow the process for Adding Content whether you are an office or school site. Select Add Content and then select the Profile content type. This will open this screen:

Fields

External Id

You can begin typing the name of the person in the External Id field and, if the person is publicly visible in the Online Directory, you will see their name automatically populate. If the person is not in the directory, you can still create a profile manually (i.e. a person associated with Middlebury but not employed here) by skipping the ID field and filling out a name.

Once you the ID number is visible, you must write the full name in the next field. If the person uses a nickname or a name other that the one in the directory, you can toggle the override button and write your preference.

You may add pronouns, but that is not required.

At this point, you should publish and save the profile. This allows you to see what has automatically populated. Then you can open edit again and begin populating information using the tabs.

This area should auto-populate according to the person's information in the directory. You can manually override this information, but please note that if the info later changes in the directory it will not update in the profile unless your remove the overrides.

Here you can add any links to social media accounts if desired.

Scholarly Identity

  • This tab allows you to select the option to Show Courses, if the profile is for a faculty member or staff member who teaches. This information is pulled from the Course Catalogs.
  • You can also add any external links to ORCiD, Google Scholar, Scopus, and GitHub.
  • There are also text blocks available for Academic Degrees and Professional Works.
