Canvas: How to Transition from Google Apps LTI activities to the Google Assignments LTI?

Middlebury has been using the Google Apps LTI in Canvas since 2017. Instructure, the company that owns and runs Canvas, no longer supports the Google Apps LTI. We are thus switching to the new Google Assignments LTI.

Middlebury has been using the Google Apps LTI in Canvas since 2017. Instructure, the company that owns and runs Canvas, no longer supports the Google Apps LTI. We are thus switching to the new Google Assignments LTI.

Timeline

December 16, 2024

The Google Assignment LTI will be added to Canvas on this date. After this date, instructors may copy their Google Apps activities to Google Assignments (on the linked page, navigate to the FAQ “How can I copy an assignment from Google Apps LTI to Assignments LTI 1.3?”)

 

December 15, 2025

The Google Apps LTI will be removed from Canvas on this date.

The Google Assignments external tool integrates Middlebury’s Google Workspace for Education with Canvas, Middlebury’s learning management system. Instructors in a Canvas site can add and manage Google Assignments from within the Canvas site. Teachers, students, and other site participants can collaborate using Docs, Sheets, and Slides in the Google Workspace suite.
