eFax (Zoom)

Summary

How to send and recieve an electronic fax with Middlebury's eFax program using Zoom.

Body

About eFax

eFax (or E-Fax) stands for Electronic Faxing.

Middlebury is now using Zoom for electronic faxing. This means all faxes are sent and received using the Zoom app from your Middlebury number or a shared departmental line.

Be on the lookout for fax-based scams! Be wary of any unexpected fax or any request for information.

Usage

Any faculty or staff member with a Zoom Phone number has the ability to send and receive fax from their assigned number (or a shared departmental line) using the Zoom app. You will receive an email notification when a new fax arrives, but you must follow a link from the email to Zoom in order to view or download the message.

Zoom's documentation for using Zoom Fax is available here: Using Online Fax.

Please note that departments using a physical fax machine or multi-function printing unit to send and receive fax are not relying on the Zoom service for fax, and should consult the operation manual for their machine for how to use the device.

Data Handling

For departments working with sensitive data, all incoming faxes must be downloaded and manually removed from the Zoom client once received. The contents should ONLY be stored in the location of record.
