Course Hub: How to set up “Intro to GenAI at Middlebury” shared Canvas resource

Instructors can provide student access to the Intro to GenAI @ Middlebury modules by linking from from the Course Hub as a shared Canvas site. This ensures that entry and exit survey results will be available for review for the course section.

Intro to GenAI @ Middlebury is a short four modules course covering basics about generative AI, tools available at Middlebury, and guidance about ethical and appropriate GenAI use for learning. Instructors can provide student access to these modules via modules by linking from from the Course Hub as a shared Canvas site. This ensures that entry and exit survey results will be available for review for the course section.

Giving your students access

To make the modules available to students, add the shared Canvas resource from the Course Hub listing for your class. This will also make it easier for you to learn who has, and who has not, engaged with the modules.

  1. Go to Course Hub and log in.
  2. Find the class listing and click +Resource.
  3. Click Shared Canvas Resource.
  4. Choose Intro to GenAI @ Middlebury.
  5. Click Save. A link to the tutorial will be added to your Course Hub listing for the current term.
  6. Tell students there are two ways to access the Canvas resource:

From Course Hub

  • Under Resources, click Introduction to GenAI at Middlebury
  • Select the class from the current term menu.
  • Go to Course Hub and log in.

From Canvas

  • Go to Canvas and log in.
  • Click Courses or Dashboard to view personal list of Canvas site.
  • Click Intro to GenAI @ Middlebury

Viewing entry and exit survey results

  1. Log in to Course Hub.
  2. Find the class the modules are linked to and click Intro to GenAI @ Middlebury. 
  3. To review results in Canvas click Quizzes in the left menu.
  4. Select the Quiz activity (Survey #1 or Survey #2) to review. 
  5. Click Quiz Statistics on the right to view a summary of survey response data. The Quiz Statistics button will be either on the right-hand side of the page or at the bottom, depending on the width of your browser window.
  6. Click Section Filter at top to specify the course section to view, then select the class.
  7. While in Quiz Statistics view, to generate a list of students who completed the survey, click the Student Analysis button. Note: this produces a list in a downloadable spreadsheet. You will need to sort or filter the sheet for your course number based on the “Section” column.

For assistance with viewing quiz statistics, contact Instructure support. When logged into Canvas, look for the Help icon with a question mark in the primary left hand navigation menu. This will display options for online help, live chat, or phone support.
