Body

This guide contains step-by-step instructions to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) for your Middlebury account.

MFA is used to confirm that you are, in fact, the actual account owner, while SSPR provides a way for you to reset your account password without assistance.

  1. Before you get started, we suggest having both your computer/laptop and mobile phone accessible.

    • NOTE: If you do not own a mobile phone, please call the Helpdesk at 802-443-2200 for assistance.

  2. Visit go.middlebury.edu/mfasetup/ and sign in using your full username@middlebury.edu email address and password.

    • FireFox is the recommended browser for MFA setup.

  3. At the More information required prompt, click Next to proceed.  Prompt for more info

  4. Click Next to configure the Microsoft Authenticator app.  The app is the recommended method for MFA verification.  Follow the on-screen prompts to finish installing and setting up the app. Microsoft Authenticator App prompt

    • If you are unable to get the app, see step 5 — otherwise, continue at step 6.

  5. If Microsoft's Authenticator app is not an option for you, select I want to set up a different method. Follow the on-screen prompts to configure an alternate option. Choose a different method drop-down

  6. Add a Phone number to use as a backup verification option. Text messages and phone call verification are both supported.

  7. Once TWO methods are configured, click the Done button when prompted.  If you have the MS Authenticator app AND a phone number in place, you'll be able to reset your own password — your MFA setup is now complete. If NOT, see step 8. Success dialogue window

  8.  For those unable to use Microsoft's Authenticator app, be sure to click + Add Method to add security questions!  This will allow you to do a password reset if you happen to lose access to your phone number.   Security info dialogue window

You can now edit your MFA methods yourself (including changing your password) at any time from go/mfasetup/, and reset your password at go/resetpassword/.

Please refer to our Password Policy for more information on creating strong passwords and keeping them secure. You can see more information about specific password resetting scenarios on our Accounts and Passwords page.
