Scanning Tips and Troubleshooting

Summary

This article describes a few ways to reduce the size of your attachment if you encounter issues scanning to fax, email, or cloud storage.

Body

This article describes a few ways to reduce the size of your attachment if you encounter issues while scanning to fax, email, or cloud storage.

Here are the current attachment size limitations when scanning:

  • 100 mb is the scan to email attachment limit.
  • 200 mb is the scan to OneDrive or Google Drive attachment limit.

Ways to reduce your attachment size:

  • Use the regular scan to email option (rather than scan to email OCR) when optical character recognition isn't needed.  Use of the OCR option typically adds a small amount to the document size as it make the format readable by OCR programs.
  • Try reducing the scan resolution to 200 DPI (down from the 300 DPI default).  200 DPI may provide satisfactory results in a smaller attachment.
  • Color scans create larger attachments so only use this option when needed.
