Click on the "Request Name Change" button to request that your name be displayed in the Canvas LMS in accordance with how you prefer to be addressed by colleagues, instructors, and classmates. This form is an easy way for someone who solely or primarily goes by a name that differs from their legal name to change the way their name is displayed in Canvas to others. For example: "Skyler Thorne" who prefers to be called "Sky".
Changing your display name in Canvas does not change your official name in any other campus-wide systems. See this page on the Champlain College website for more information about changing your Legal Name, your Chosen name, or updating any other personal information.
All Canvas display name requests will be reviewed to ensure that they do not conflict with Champlain College’s Standard of Conduct or Harassment and Discrimination Policy.
Champlain College Canvas Users
Your preferred first name will be used for your display name with your last (family) name. For example: "Sky Thorne".
Your Canvas display name is how other users will see your name in Announcements, Conferences, Conversations, and Discussions.
Changing your Canvas display name does not change your full (legal) name in Canvas (used for Grades, Chat, and People). For example: "Skyler Thorne"
Chosen Name Information
Champlain College recognizes that transgender, non-binary, and/or gender nonconforming students might not use the name that they were assigned at birth, as it does not reflect their identity. Therefore, the College has staff in place to assist students who wish to update their email addresses, academic class listings, and ID cards with their chosen name. See this page on the Champlain College website for more information about the Chosen name process.
