Champlain College recognizes that transgender, non-binary, and/or gender nonconforming students may not wish to use the name that they were assigned at birth, as it does not reflect their identity. We also recognize that for a variety of reasons students may not wish to go through a legal name change or may be in the middle of doing so, but wish to have their records reflect their chosen name before the process is complete. As such, the College has staff in place to assist students who wish to update their email addresses, academic class listings, and ID cards with their chosen name.
Students who would like to update their name to more accurately reflect their identity should complete this form. A member of the Student Affairs team will follow-up with the student to confirm and approve the change. Students wishing to learn more about the scope of this option prior to completing the form should contact Lisa Mazzariello at mazzariello@champlain.edu, located in IDX Student Life Center 315.
Note to New Students
We are excited to have you join us soon! Please note that we will process your request after July 1st when new students are moved into Champlain's internal computer systems. You may submit a request before then, but you will not receive a reply or invite to a complete an advising meeting until you are set up in our systems.
This also means that you will be issued an initial email account under your legal name. That is all part of how students are set up in our systems and it will be changed in the Chosen Name process.
After your request form is submitted, you will be contacted by a staff member within 1-3 business days to arrange an advising meeting in order to discuss where your name will change, where it will not, and ways to manage the discrepancies. This is an opportunity for you to be informed about the process and to ask any questions you may have.
If at the end of the meeting you want to move forward with this process, we will initiate the change and within 3-5 business days the changes will be complete.
