FERPA Confidentiality

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education
records. FERPA prohibits disclosure of student information to other persons – even to the students’ parents.
Within the Canvas environment, student information is not limited to the grade center and roster. It also includes (but is not limited to) assignment submissions, contact information, and major. Therefore, I understand and agree to the following:

· As a teaching assistant,
I will have access to student information that is protected under FERPA.

· I have reviewed the SMC
FERPA & Confidentiality information on the Registrar’s Office website.

· If I receive a request
for personally identifiable student education records from anyone other than the student the record concerns or the course instructor(s), I will not disclose any information. I will inform the instructor(s) and the SMC Registrar’s Office of this request.

· Any failure
to comply with this agreement could result in disciplinary action including (but not limited to) losing my TA position, suspension from Saint Michael's College, or dismissal from the College.
