This article will help you connect to the Middlebury wireless (WiFi) PantherNet network using your personal devices, with detailed instructions on how to connect depending on the type of device.
This fast and secure network is available for use by anyone who has a Middlebury College account. This includes Courtesy Accounts, but does NOT include Guest Accounts.
The instructions in this article are for unmanaged devices only. College-owned devices are pre-configured to connect to the network.

In your device's native web browser (i.e., Safari, Edge, or Chrome), visit go.middlebury.edu/panthernet/.

Click JoinNow/Sign In, and...

iOS: review and install the configuration profile.

Android: install and run the application from the Google Play Store and save the PantherNet network.

macOS: run the downloaded application and review and install the configuration profile.

Windows: run the downloaded application.

Linux: run the downloaded script.

When prompted to sign in, use your Middlebury College credentials (username@middlebury.edu and password).

Follow the prompts to finish configuring your device.

After properly configured, your device will automatically connect to PantherNet when in range of the network.
Detailed below are the steps and screens you can expect to see for your device.

In the Safari browser, visit go.middlebury.edu/panthernet/.

Tap Sign In. Log in with your full Middlebury email (username@middlebury.edu) and password, and complete the MFA prompts.

Once signed in, tap JoinNow. A pop-up may appear informing you that "cloud.securew2.com" is trying to download a configuration profile—if it does, tap Allow. When you see the Profile Downloaded pop-up, tap Close.

Navigate to the Settings app. On the main Settings page, underneath your Apple Account information, tap Profile Downloaded.

On the Install Profile pop-up, click Install. Enter your phone passcode to continue.

On the Warning page, click Install, then Install again on the confirmation prompt. When the installer is done, tap Done/✔ in the top right corner.

Your device will now automatically connect to PantherNet when in range of the network.

In the Chrome browser, visit go.middlebury.edu/panthernet/.

Under Step 1, tap the Download button. In the Google Play Store, Install the SecureW2 JoinNow app. Once installed, Open the app. JoinNow will run and begin to download the configuration.

A browser window will open asking you to log in. Log in with your full Middlebury email (username@middlebury.edu) and password, and complete the MFA prompts. After signing in, Continue to the JoinNow MultiOS app, where the app will begin Enrolling and issuing the certificate.

Once the certificate is enrolled, tap Next in the JoinNow app, and Save the PantherNet network in the Android prompt window.

The application should confirm that your device is now configured to connect to the network.

You may now uninstall the JoinNow MultiOS app from your device.

Your device will now automatically connect to PantherNet when in range of the network.

In the Safari, Firefox, or Chrome browser, visit go.middlebury.edu/panthernet/.

Select the option "Configure via dissolvable Agent" and click JoinNow. The WiFi_Middlebury_College_JoinNow.dmg file will begin to download.

When the download is complete, run the downloaded application (double-click the download, then double-click the application file). macOS will ask for confirmation to run the JoinNow application. Click Open.

If the app does not appear to launch (i.e., the next step does not appear), your security settings may be preventing the app from running. Open System Settings, navigate to the Privacy & Security tab, scroll down the page, and under Security look for '"WiFi_Middlebury_College_Wrapper" was blocked to protect your Mac'—if you see this, click Open Anyway.

macOS will ask you to allow "WiFi_Middlebury_College_Wrapper" to find devices on local networks. Click Allow.

SecureW2 JoinNow will now run. Click Next. macOS will ask you to allow "WiFi_Middlebury_College_Wrapper" to control access to your default web browser. Click Allow.

A browser window will open asking you to log in. Log in with your full Middlebury email (username@middlebury.edu) and password, and complete the MFA prompts. Sign in is complete when you see "Authentication successful".

JoinNow will generate a key and enroll the certificate, then notify you that a profile will be installed. Click Next. A pop-up will notify you of Profile Downloaded. Click OK.

Open macOS System Settings. Double-click the downloaded Middlebury College PantherNet profile listed in the Profile Downloaded tab. On the installation detail window, click Install... in the lower-left corner. In the confirmation pop-up, click Install.

The Device Management/MDM installer will ask for your permission to install the profile. Enter your macOS username and password, and click OK.

macOS may ask you to allow "SecureW2 JoinNow" to access your current location—if it does, click Allow.

The application will now configure your device for connection and attempt to connect to the PantherNet network.

You may now eject and delete the WiFi_Middlebury_College_JoinNow.dmg file.

Your device will now automatically connect to PantherNet when in range of the network.

In the Edge, Firefox, or Chrome browser, visit go.middlebury.edu/panthernet/.

Click JoinNow. The WiFi_Middlebury_College_Wrapper.exe file will begin to download.

When the download is complete, run the downloaded application (click Open file).

Windows may ask you to allow SecureW2_JoinNow to access your location—if it does, click Yes.

JoinNow will now open. Click Next to begin the process.

A browser window will open asking you to log in. Log in with your full Middlebury email (username@middlebury.edu) and password, and complete the MFA prompts. Sign in is complete when you see "Authentication successful".

The application will now enroll and issue a certificate, configure your device for connection, and attempt to connect to the PantherNet network.

If you are not in range of PantherNet, wait for the "Configuration succeeded" screen, then click Continue—do NOT click Retry, as this will restart the entire JoinNow process.

When the application says "Joined...", the process is complete. Click Done.

You may now delete the WiFi_Middlebury_College_Wrapper.exe file.

Your device will now automatically connect to PantherNet when in range of the network.

In the Edge, Firefox, or Chrome browser, visit go.middlebury.edu/panthernet/.

Click JoinNow. The SecureW2_JoinNow.run file will begin to download.

When the download is complete, open the terminal, navigate to your download folder, and run sh SecureW2_JoinNow.run. JoinNow will inform you that it will launch a separate dialog to sign in; type Next and hit Enter.

A browser window will open asking you to log in. Log in with your full Middlebury email (username@middlebury.edu) and password, and complete the MFA prompts. Sign in is complete when you see "You can close this window after client finishes onboarding".

Once authenticated, JoinNow generate and install your certificate and PantherNet profile within NetworkManager.

If you are in range of PantherNet, your device should automatically connect to it.

If you are not in range of PantherNet, type Continue and hit Enter—do NOT type Retry, as this will restart the entire JoinNow process.

You may now delete the SecureW2_JoinNow.run file.

Your device will now automatically connect to PantherNet when in range of the network.
Q: Why can't I join with just my username and password, same as MiddleburyCollege?

PantherNet uses certificate-based authentication, as opposed to the current NTLM v1 authentication protocol; this requires each individual device be registered and issued a certificate to connect, rather than connecting with just your credentials.
Q: Why do I see a privacy warning when my device is joined to PantherNet?

PantherNet does not use private Wi-Fi addresses, which on some devices, when disabled, automatically triggers a privacy warning regarding tracking by the wireless provider. However, PantherNet is a secure network.
Q: Why am I being asked to allow JoinNow to access my current location?
Q: Is this change only happening on the Vermont campus?

While the network name that is being retired is “MiddleburyCollege”, that is also the primary network in use at Monterey, the DC Office, and the Bread Loaf campus. PantherNet will be replacing MiddleburyCollege in all locations.

Eduroam wireless will continue to be available as part of the Middlebury network options.

Authentication will remain unchanged for visitors, as authentication requests to eduroam are sent from the Middlebury network to the home institution.

Middlebury users are encouraged to use PantherNet when on campus, but will need to install a certificate to connect to eduroam with their Middlebury account (whether at home or on the road). Return here later for updated documentation.
Q: Why are we making this change?

Yes—beyond changing because the current authentication protocol we use is being retired, this solution prevents password changes to your account resulting in your account locking.

Additionally, PantherNet certificates may be pre-installed, even when out of range of the network.
