Troubleshooting Classroom A/V Systems

No video or sound over HDMI or USB-C:

  • Confirm the projector beam is on.  If not, Power Down the A/V System and back On.

  • Check if Your Laptop is asleep.  The connection only works with an active screen.

  • Plug the cable into Your Laptop firmly.  Unplug and replug to firm up a spotty connection.

  • Verify that Your Laptop is mirroring its display to the projector:

            > On PC, hit Windows Logo Button + P and select Duplicate from the pop-out list.

            > On Mac, hit Command + F1.

Some MacBooks with a keyboard touch bar replaced F1 with a Dim Brightness Key đź”….

Video but no sound over HDMI or USB-C:

  • Adjust the volume on Your Laptop.  The connection won’t work if the device is muted.

  • Raise the player volume on Your Laptop.  YouTube, Vimeo, etc. all have volume control.

  • Ensure that Your Laptop is sending an audio signal to the A/V system:

          > On PC, open Settings, System, Sound tab, open Choose your output device and select the option other than your own speakers (usually “HDMI” or “Extron”).

          > On Mac, open System Preferences (or System Settings on macOS Ventura), Sound window, Output tab, then select the option other than your own speakers (usually “HDMI” or “Extron”).

Projected video is different from laptop screen:

  • On PC, hit Windows Logo Button + P, then select Duplicate from the options that appear.

  • On Mac, open System Preferences (or System Settings on macOS Ventura), then the Displays window, select the Arrangement tab, and check the Mirror Displays option.

Video but no sound via Apple TV AirPlay:

  • On Your MacBook, open System Preferences (or System Settings on macOS Ventura) > Sound window > Output tab > select the classroom from the list of AirPlay options.
