What is Question Authoring for Quizzes?

Question Authoring is a generative AI-enabled feature within New Quizzes that allows instructors to automatically create questions based on specific source materials.

How is Question Authoring activated in a course?

IgniteAI Question Authoring is turned off by default at the course level. People with the teacher role can turn on IgniteAI Question Authoring by doing the following:

1. Click on the Settings link at the bottom of the course-level Navigation menu.

2. Click the Feature Options tab.

3. Under the State column, click the red circled X next to Question Authoring for Quizzes to turn it on. When enabled the icon will present as a green check mark.

How is Question Authoring accessed?

When enabled, it is accessed within the Build tab of a New Quiz:

1. Click the Add button (used to add new questions).

2. Select the Generate with AI button.

How does Question Authoring work?

Once the authoring tool is open, generate questions by defining the source material and refining settings. Select from three types of source inputs:

• Course Content: Select from existing modules or files. You can select multiple modules, but only one file at a time.

• Text Input: Manually paste or type relevant text into the field. This input has a limit of twenty thousand characters.

• File Upload: Drag and drop a file or upload one from a device.

  • Note: If you select a file from "Course Content," you cannot simultaneously attach a new file via the "File Input" tile.

After selecting the source, add a Topic Focus and select the desired Question Type. Finally, a preview appears, allowing you to Edit/Review, Regenerate, or Cancel the question before adding it to the quiz.

What are the customization options for generating questions?

To ensure the generated questions match your pedagogical goals, several filters and refinements are available under "More Options":

• Learning Outcomes: Connect the question to specific available outcomes.

• Bloom's Taxonomy: Select the desired level of cognitive complexity.

• Depth of Knowledge: Choose a specific depth of knowledge level.

• Language: Select the preferred language for the question.
