Tips & Recommendations

  • Mobility print does not support printing to plotters (i.e. poster printing). Poster print jobs must be submitted from a nearby public lab computer. Visit https://go/poster/ to learn more about poster creation and printing.
  • You MUST be connected to the MiddleburyCollege network in order to print; MiddleburyGuest does not suffice!
  • Choosing the MiddBW or MiddColor print queues allows you to go to any public printer location to release your print job(s)! See the appropriate Mobility Print instructions below to set up the MiddBW & MiddColor queues for use on a personal device.
  • When requesting a printout, be sure to select MiddBW unless your document truly requires color ink, as you will be charged more per page for jobs released with color.
    • You can also print in black & white from MiddColor by selecting the "Print as grayscale" option on the printer screen when releasing the job for print.
  • We recommend that you save your documents in your OneDrive or Google Drive cloud storage where they can be easily accessed by any networked computer on campus.

Option 1 - Print from your personally-owned computer using Mobility Print

macOS (one time setup instructions)

IMPORTANT: Mobility Print is not intended for use on college-owned computers; see https://go/print?mac/ for printer installation instructions.

Add the MiddBW and MiddColor queues using these steps for your Mac:

  1. Be sure to connect to wireless with MiddleburyCollege, NOT MiddleburyGuest!
    • After connecting to MiddleburyCollege, click on the Details... button next to the network for more information (the i on MacOS Monterey or below) and turn OFF Limit IP address tracking. The network printers may not be able to properly connect to your computer if the IP address tracking limiter is on.
  2. Navigate to System Settings (System Preferences on Monterey or below) > Printers & Scanners.
  3. Click the Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax button below the Printers pane (+ icon on Monterey or below). The Add Printer dialog box appears, listing all discovered printers on the network.
  4. Click to select a printer. Its Name, Location, and Use will display. MiddBW and MiddColor are the two public printer queues you will want to add.
  5. Confirm that Use is set to Secure AirPrint, then click Add to set up the desired printer.
  6. Print your document to one of the installed queues. When prompted to authenticate, do NOT accept any default login details. Enter your full Middlebury email address (including @middlebury.edu) and password and choose “Save to keychain” or "Remember this password in my keychain" (this is to prevent you needing to input your credentials every time you send a job).
Important! The credentials used to authenticate individual printers will be charged for any print jobs submitted to it, regardless of who is logged on to the computer.
  7. (Repeat steps 1 – 6 above to add any other desired printers.)
  8. See How do I release my print jobs? to print your submitted jobs.

Windows 10 and 11 (one time installation instructions)

IMPORTANT: Mobility Print is not intended for use on college-owned computers; see https://go/print?win/ for printer installation instructions.

Add the MiddBW and MiddColor queues using these steps:

  1. Be sure to connect to wireless with MiddleburyCollege, NOT MiddleburyGuest!
  2. Visit https://go/mobileprint/. You may need to manually prompt the browser to continue to the page (i.e. trust the site). Click the link to download, then run the Mobility Print Installer (pc-mobility-print-printer-setup-1.0.XXX.exe). You may need to allow the app to make changes.
  3. Choose the installation language. On the License Agreement screen, accept the agreement, then click Next.
  4. Select desired printer(s)MiddBW and MiddColorthen click Next.
Note: You may want to uncheck the box beside the first printer on the list to deselect it.
  5. Enter your full Middlebury email address (including @middlebury.edu) and password, then click Next.
Important! The credentials used to install individual printers will be charged for any print jobs submitted to it, regardless of who is logged on to the computer.
  6. Click Finish. Print your document to one of the installed queues.
(To add more printers later, run the downloaded Mobility Print Installer program again and repeat steps 1 – 6 above.)
  7. See How do I release my print jobs? to print your submitted jobs.

Troubleshooting Common Mobility Print Issues

  • Check the wireless network. You must be connected to MiddleburyCollege in order to print. Mobility Print does not work on the MiddleburyGuest or eduroam networks.
  • Mobility print does not support printing to plotters (i.e. poster printing) due to the non-standard page sizes. See printing from a lab or public computer below.
  • Mobility Print is not intended for use on college-owned computers; these are easily connected to networked printers, and not all features of the print driver are available when using Mobility Print. Refer to https://go/print?win/ or https://go/print?mac/ for printer installation instructions.
  • Certain printers have restricted access; you may see ones included in the printer list that you cannot use.
  • "Hold for authentication" may appear in the print queue window under the job when using Mobility Print on Macs. Click the refresh button beside the job on the printer window; a login prompt should appear where you can provide your Middlebury email address and password. After pressing Enter or Continue, the print job should proceed as desired.
    • Be sure you are using valid login credentials when prompted to authenticate; you need your full Middlebury email address (including @middlebury.edu) and password. You can confirm your password is correct by using it to log in to a different service, such as your email (https://go/webmail/).
    • If refreshing with valid credentials continues to show "Hold for authentication", you may need to check your network settings. Open the System Settings (System Preferences on MacOS Monterey or below) and navigate to the Wi-Fi tab (Network on Monterey or below). Click on the Details... button next to the MiddleburyCollege network for more information (the i on Monterey or below) and turn OFF Limit IP address tracking. The network printers may not be able to properly connect to your computer if the IP address tracking limiter is on.
  • Mac users can often fix issues by removing/reinstalling printers from System Settings (System Preferences on Monterey or below) > Printers & Scanners.
  • Use of private VPN software (other than Middlebury's Global Protect) will cause problems with Mobility Print setup and use.
  • Still need a hand? See Getting Help with Printer Issues (https://go/printerhelp/).

Option 2 - Print from a lab or public computer (required for poster printing)

Important:  This option is required for poster printing! For more information on poster printing, see https://go/poster/.

**Lab computers refer to any computer with lab functionality (e.g. connection to the Posters queue) in one of the labs on campus (e.g. Wilson Media Lab).

  1. Log in to a college computer in the library, or any of our public computer labs. Be sure to use your own Middlebury email and password - if someone else was using the computer before you and forgot to log out, log them out first! The print job(s) will be sent to whoever is logged into the computer; i.e. you will NOT be able to access the job if YOU are not logged in.
  2. Open your document from wherever it is stored (e.g. OneDrive, a USB drive, Google Drive, your email, etc.)
  3. Print your document. In most programs you can do this by choosing File -> Print, or by pressing the appropriate shortcut keys.
    • Specify which pages you want to print, then choose MiddBW or MiddColor from the drop-down list (for poster printing, the queue is Posters).
(Note: On Windows, queue names are followed by on papercut.)
    • Choosing another printer is possible, but these two queues give you the greatest flexibility as you can release your print job from any public printer.
  4. See How do I release my print jobs? to print your submitted jobs.

How do I release my print jobs?

  1. Go to any public printer for jobs sent to MiddBW or MiddColor. The list of locations can be found at go/printlocations/.
  2. Log in on the printer panel using your Middlebury ID number, or your full Middlebury email address (including @middlebury.edu) and password.
    • NOTE:  After 24 hours have elapsed, sent print jobs will be erased from the system.
  3. Click on the "Print release" option. Select the jobs you wish to print, and press Print (bottom right of the screen) to release the selected items.
    • To print in black & white, use the MiddBW queue, or select "Print as grayscale" on the printer screen when releasing the job from MiddColor.

If there is an issue with the printer, see go/printerhelp/ for what to do, or directly contact the go/helpdesk/.

Conserving Resources

You can reduce the environmental impact of printing your papers by following some simple recommendations:

  • Use Print Preview (under the File menu) to see how your document looks before printing, to check for errors.
  • Print in black & white whenever possible. Black & white is charged at a lower per-page rate than jobs in color. Black & white is the default for the MiddBW queue, but you can also print in black & white from MiddColor by selecting the "Print as grayscale" option on the printer screen when releasing the job for print.
  • Print double-sided whenever possible. This is the default for the MiddBW queue.
  • Don’t print e-reserve or other web source material unless truly necessary. Instead of printing the entire document, take notes while reading it on the computer to help you remember important points.
  • When printing a draft, print multiple pages on one sheet. This can be surprisingly readable at 2-4 pages per sheet. It becomes a tremendous paper-saving technique when combined with double-sided printing!
  • Please print only one copy of your documents; then, if needed, use the copy machines to generate additional copies.
