Signing into a Middlebury Mac computer

I'm unable to log into a Mac computer owned by Middlebury. What do I do?

Shared use (lab) computer

The username and password for sign-in to shared macOS computers is your Middlebury email address and password. The computer must have an on-campus Internet connection when you are logging into it for the first time.

Primary computer (assigned to you specifically, or a loaner)

The log-in username for most Mac computers is your full Middlebury email address. However, if your Mac was distributed prior to 2020, your device may require your username only (i.e., username from username@middlebury.edu).

Password

Your computer account is local to your Mac—that is to say, although your username may be your email address, your computer password was something you set on the computer upon your initial login.

If you have forgotten your Mac password, you may need to reset your password. A password reset requires one of the below:

  1. Credentials to an Apple ID associated with the computer.
  2. Access to another account with Administrator permissions.
  3. The FileVault Recovery Key for the Mac.
    • If you need a recovery key, please see the related article for FileVault recovery key information - and/or contact the helpdesk.

For more information, see Apple's If you've forgotten your Mac login password.*

*macOS Recovery may require an Internet connection. MiddleburyGuest and MiddleburyCollege wi-fi are not viable for this purpose - consider using Ethernet, home wi-fi, or a personal hotspot.

Please also see related articles, and don't hesitate to make a service request with the asset number of the computer for further assistance.
