Release and Renew IP Address

Renewing your computer's IP address may resolve connection issues.  Here are release/renew instructions for a variety of operating systems:

Windows 10 & 11

  1. Click the magnifying glass icon on the Task Bar, then type cmd in the search field.
  2. In the list of results, right-click on Command Prompt then click Run as administrator.
  3. Click Yes to allow changes when prompted.
  4. In the window that appears type ipconfig /release then press Enter.
  5. After a brief delay the IP address will be released.
  6. Type in ipconfig /renew then press Enter.

If you have a working network connection this will renew your IP resolving any connection issues.

MacOS, thru Monterey (12.0)

  1. Click on the Apple logo (top left corner), click System Preferences. In the window that appears click Network.
  2. In the list at the left, select the network service that needs a renewed IP address,  then click the Advanced button in the lower right corner.
  3. From the TCP/IP tab click the button Renew DHCP Lease. Click the OK button.

MacOS, Ventura (13.0) & Sonoma (14.0)

  1. Click on the Apple logo (top left corner), click System Settings. In the window that appears click Network.
  2. From the list, select the network service that needs a renewed IP address, then click the Details button beside the network name.
  3. Choose TCP/IP at left, then click the button Renew DHCP Lease. Click the OK button.
